INTERIOR DESIGN: I love and enjoy being an interior designer. I feel very blessed and grateful that I have found a business I love being in and doing. I have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects over the last 20 plus years. I am also very lucky that all the design clients I have had – I have developed fabulous friendships with.
When helping someone do their home – you are given the privilege to be let into their lives. You get to know them and their family……….on so many levels. The creativity and collaboration that happens with a client to achieve their ultimate “look”, their “home” – is such a fun process to be a part of. The hunting and gathering of all the elements that really pull a space together - is a fun challenge – finding all the right pieces to finish the puzzle for them. My job, as an interior designer, is to give my clients what they want – the best way I know how.
I really love getting in early on any brand new build or major renovation. I have lost count how many projects I have worked on from commercial to residential. Coming in with the experience I have had – I can contribute so much to a project. So many purchase a home and it is their “lifer” and because the client doesn’t want to make any mistakes………assistance is often needed. If one doesn’t do this for a living – it often becomes overwhelming. AND, think about it – most people have full-time jobs…..bankers, doctors, teachers – this is what you do for a living. Interiors are what I do for a living. I am happy to help with the simplest task as paint colors and experienced enough to help you design your home from start to finish…..from the exterior to the entire interior. Planning your space from the drawings up and happy to help completely furnish it too.
I also like coming up with custom designs to help give a project an extra something special. Check out this dining table I designed – Love how this turned out – more importantly – so did my clients!! I was hunting around for something different and came across a slew of old radiators at Caravatis in Richmond. Love what this added to the over all design of this space. This project was a complete renovation that I was on from start to finish.
I don’t care if it is the entire project or just one room at a time – I think one of the most important elements when designing is how it truly is going to be used. Circulation in the entire home – but, also in each individual room is important to understand. Circulation and how a room lays out can be affected by the simplest thing as a door….the size, does it swing in or out – should it be split into two, a pocket door or should it even be a sliding type door. The other key factor that I think is important is the lighting of a space. Natural light from windows, overheads, chandeliers, sconces, lamps and YES – All lighting should be put on dimmers!
Here are a couple before shots from the kitchen on this latest project I worked on. This kitchen was completely functional - but, definitely not the look we wanted to achieve. Sleeker, more counter space and more importantly they needed more storage. We didn’t move the location – but, this kitchen definitely got a new look! I truly loved working with these clients. There was also a fabulous team working on the project - an abundance of collaboration. I worked side by side with Jeff Easter the builder and Lori Randall from Cabinet Solutions to pull this off! The after shots are below.
I love doing interiors – there will be more design blogs and pictures to come! For a little bit more about my design history – click HERE.
If you are interested or know of anyone needing help with their business or home – I would definitely be interested in meeting with them! Have a fabulous week.

In 2014, Leftover Luxuries is definitely planning to have Sale Events in a handful of new locations! Finding the right person in these new locations is what we are working on. The NEXT NEW LOCATION that we are working on is Scottsdale, Arizona. If all the stars line up, it will be our first sale event in 2014!
What does the Charlottesville Warehouse mean?? It means that Leftover Luxuries is available to take things in ALL year-long. So many times since starting the company – items have come available that did not fall into our “Fall & Spring” events – the Warehouse allows us to take consignments in all the time now. AND, because of this – we are going to start having more “sale events” here in Charlottesville. Once the Warehouse starts filling up – we are going to have another “sale event”. This also means that if you are looking for something for your home – let us know – our wish list will help us find exactly what you are looking for!
If you missed our last sale, didn’t have time to consign or come by – here’s another chance before the end of the year. We are going to have a (4) four-day sale event next month – November 15, 16th, 17th & 18th, 10am – 6pm. ONLY four days – Come and get it!
If you are interested in consigning – please email us pictures of your items. Our CONSIGN page goes into all the details – then email pictures to: firstname.lastname@example.org. AND, because of the warehouse – I’m happy to hold onto your items after the sale through out the holidays – we can arrange a pick-up after the holidays!
Before you take your items to an Auction house or have an Estate Sale – Contact Leftover Luxuries. WE are also happy to assist you in going through your items. So many people come to us for very different reasons – downsizing, moving, purchasing a bigger house, items they have inherited and sometimes even because of a death. One of my favorite things since starting the company is the before and after stories of the items we bring in…..where they came from and the new homes we find for them. Because of these “personal” stories, I feel very grateful for all the consignors and shoppers I have met over the past four years…..I feel very fortunate for all the new friendships I have made along the way.
I love the growth that Leftover Luxuries has had - but, there is nothing like being home in Charlottesville – doing what I love, surrounded by my friends and my BOYS!!!
CONSIGN & SHOP our next sale! The Warehouse is located at Pantops Shopping Center.

For the upcoming event here in Charlottesville, we are teaming up with two different local non-profits: Common Ground Healing Art center and the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. Below is more information on both.
Common Ground – I recently visited with the Bryan Phillips, the Director of the new wellness center. Common Ground is located in the historic Jefferson School City Center in the heart of downtown Charlottesville. The space includes a fully equipped yoga studio, a community acupuncture clinic, and private treatment rooms for massage, herbalist consultations, and counseling and coaching sessions. By sharing space and working together, the practitioners connect and collaborate in serving clients who seek to integrate multiple healing modalities. Common Ground’s wellness center is a hub for healing arts practices in the Charlottesville community. Since January 2010, Common Ground’s outreach programs have been bringing the healing arts directly to community members who may be unable to access them otherwise. Through a generous grant provided by the Bama Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band as well as hundreds of volunteer hours donated by local healing arts practitioners, the Community of Healers program is reaching underserved populations in our area through a combination of free wellness services and job training opportunities in the healing arts. Common Ground is committed to empowering our community to live a healthy lifestyle, and the unique way we provide services will make wellness available to all members of our community, regardless of ability to pay. They believe that working together, and with the continued support of foundations, corporate giving programs, and individual donors, they can make a difference in the health of our whole community, one person at a time. Here is their Mission Statement:
Our Mission Statement: Common Ground is a nonprofit wellness center committed to engaging the whole community in healthy living. Our practitioners teach and inspire you to take charge of your health through proven practices such as yoga, acupuncture, herbalism, meditation, massage therapy, and mindfulness-based counseling. Our services are offered on a sliding scale basis, making the center accessible to all.
Common Ground’s larger vision is to bring people together across socio-economic lines around the shared goal of improved health and wellness, and to help each of us experience the fact that we are part of an interconnected community where everyone has the right to feel well and whole. Our five year goal is for the demographics of the people we serve to reflect the demographics of the City of Charlottesville.
CASPCA - who doesn’t love FURRY friends! My boys and I have found some fabulous family members here at our local SPCA. The CASPCA has so many furry friends that need homes. If you can’t bring home a new family member, please spread the goodness by donating and or Consign for the Cause!
Here is their Mission Statement & Vision:
The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is a nonprofit animal welfare organization that provides a safe environment for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and places them in good homes. We strive to set a standard of excellence and leadership in animal care, humane education, and progressive animal welfare programs.
Vision - To guarantee a good home to every healthy and behaviorally sound companion animal. To save all dogs and cats that are medically treatable and can be behaviorally rehabilitated. To be a leader and an example for other organizations. To set the standard for our region, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the nation for how to save lives. To develop constructive relationships that advance the CASPCA’s mission and vision with our community, our city/county governments and other nonprofit organizations.
